There’s a phrase I say often (with my clients, my partner and closest girlfriends) etc—because it’s changed the way I live, parent, work, and move through my day:
Change your state… and then.
It’s simple. But don’t let its simplicity fool you—this one practice holds the power to transform how you show up in every part of your life.
Your state is your internal energy. It’s how you’re feeling mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually in a given moment. And that state shapes everything: how you think, how you speak, how you lead, how you connect, and how you take care of yourself.
And here’s the most important part: your state is not fixed. You can change it.
In this week's podcast episode, I dive into what it truly means to change your state and why it’s one of the most empowering things you can do for your vitality, clarity, and peace.
What Does It Mean to “Change Your State”?
Changing your state means shifting your energy before you act.
Before you send the text.
Before you respond to the frustration.
Before you take care of everyone else.
So often, we move from one moment to the next without checking in with ourselves. We react, rather than respond. We pour from empty, trying to “push through” or “get it done.”
But when you choose to first pause and shift your state, something powerful happens:
You align.
You regulate.
You return to yourself.
And then—from that grounded, present place—you move forward with intention.
How to Change Your State
You don’t need a whole day to reset your energy. You just need a few aligned moments. Here are a few of my go-to ways:

Move your body – Dance, stretch, walk, shake it out. Movement clears stuck energy.

Breathe – Slow, conscious breathing calms your nervous system and centers your mind.

Journal – Write out your thoughts. Let it be messy and honest. Get the weight out of your head and onto the page.

Speak truth over yourself – Use affirmations like “I am calm. I am clear. I am grounded.” Say them until you feel them.

Get still – Sit in silence. Light a candle. Put your hand on your heart. Ask, “What do I need right now?”
Why It Matters
When you raise your vibration—when you tend to your state first—your entire energy shifts. You become magnetic. Peaceful. Grounded.
And people feel that.
Your relationships shift.
Your decisions feel clearer.
Your day flows more smoothly.
You don’t just survive your day—you lead it.
This is how we break free from the burnout cycle.
This is how we reclaim our power—moment by moment.
So the next time life feels heavy…
When your emotions are running wild…

You are the author of your energy. You get to choose how you show up. And when you honor your state first, you lead from love—not from lack.
